Who is it that can tell me who I am?
King Lear Act I.4
The future of a nation is threatened by an old King who refuses to change with the times. Traitors and opportunists twist his environment until all he has left is himself, only then does he realize he has passed the point of no return.
Through the lens of the Dark Ages, Shakespeare Frankfurt’s production of King Lear seeks to discover what it takes to achieve genuine change – ideological, social, and even emotional transformation – while navigating a ruthless world of deceit and desire. Using the lush environment of the Botanischer Garten Frankfurt, we will transport you, to a world of sin, violence, deception, and ruthlessness. Along the way, you will discover how the wholesomeness and devotion of a few can change the doomed destiny of a kingdom into one of hope. Wear your best walking shoes and prepare for a summer evening of Promenade Theatre.
